Flyaways Gold Competitive Team Program

Our philosophy for the competitive team program with Flyaways Gold Gymnastics, is to develop excellence in gymnastics, to instill a strong foundation of learning, and to build character and confidence that will last a lifetime.

Flyaways Gold Gymnastics athletes learn many valuable qualities that are inherent in the sport of gymnastics such as self-discipline (training and managing oneself to work toward achieving goals), self-motivation (working hard because you want to), respect (for self, sport, physical fitness, teammates, coaches, and officials), sportsmanship (fair play, courtesy toward teammates and opponents, striving spirit, and grace in losing).  Still more qualities include:

  • Dedication
  • Leadership
  • Concentration – Focus
  • Time Management
  • Team Work
  • Friendship
  • Gracefulness
  • Love of Physical Fitness
  • Goal Setting
  • Effort and Performance toward Individual Growth
  • A Healthy Mental Attitude
  • An Appetite for Success

“Gymnastics Excellence” means becoming the best you can be individually.  To achieve this excellence, long- and short-range goals need to be set.  To achieve your goals, an incredible amount of hard work is necessary and expected.  We are here to help you accomplish your goals!

General Program Outline

Flyaways Gold is a USA Gymnastics (USAG) Member Club and we support the guidelines set forth by the national organization.  Our team coaching staff is safety-certified, screened with background-checks and hold Professional Memberships with USAG.

Junior-Olympic Program

In support of USAG, we train and compete the Junior-Olympic (JO) developmental program, Levels Four through Ten.  Here, capable and motivated young athletes typically start training in our Gold Stars program for one or two years, advance to HotShots (sometime referred to as PreTeam) when they are physically and emotionally ready, and start competing about a year later in Level 4.

Xcel Program

We also have great success with our Xcel Team program, which is a smart choice for gymnasts interested in learning routines and attending meets but are unsure they are ready to take on the demands of our standard JO program.  Girls finding their bliss in this program are often multi-sport athletes, have an event or two that is significantly stronger than the others, trained through our developmental classes and are ready to try competition, or have greater interest in pursuing High School competitive gymnastics but are too young to join their local team.

Turbo

We also promote a TOPs-based flexibility and strength program for off-season training, specifically for our JO Program members in addition to their regular level schedules.

If you are interested in our team program and want to know if it's a good fit for you and your family, please contact our team director and USAG State Board Member, Mandi ().

Basic Team Policies

In an effort to operate an efficient and valuable program for our members, Flyaways Gold has a complete manual outlining team policies and guidelines.  All team athletes are expected to abide by the policies therein and will receive a full copy of this manual upon acceptance into our program.

Some of the general policies are as follows:

  • Team membership involves a year-round commitment in a 12-month program.  Subsequently, yearly tuition is divided into 12 monthly payments for the convenience of our members.  Flyaways Gold reserves the right to cancel practice at any time and will generously offer make-ups where applicable but are not obliged to do so.
  • Gymnasts are expected to attend all practices during the competition season and are encouraged to attend all practices in the period leading up to their competitive season.  Practices that are held but missed by any member are not refunded nor provided make-ups.  Missing training received during practice not only hinders progress but is unsafe.  Team members are to notify staff prior to any missed practice or upcoming vacations/extended absences.  Unexcused or excessive absences and athletes at risk of getting behind or injured due to poor attendance, are asked to meet with staff and parents to address the concern and may not be permitted to compete in an upcoming meet.

  • Gymnasts are required to meet (and encouraged to exceed!) the performance and skill expectations of their level.

  • Gymnasts are required to attend all local meets, including invitational meets that we choose to attend as a club.  Meets that are optional will be noted as such.

  • Team members are required to hold membership with the Flyaways Gold Booster Club.  The parent booster club assists families with fund raising activities and helps to manage competitive expenses.
